Flashdance soundtrack review movie#
And it seems like a sure thing that she got in as she meets up with Nick who has a bunch of roses for her as the shot freezes, and the movie comes to an end in one of those great stand up and cheer movie moments Which really wins the judges over with some big smiles and toe-tapping. And then 'What a feeling' plays once again as she delivers a thrilling routine filled with some great technical moves, in addition to her just having a great time getting into the music. The climax is the big long-awaited dance audition, and there is an unsuspected twist as she messes up and asks to start over. So Alex knows it is either now or never to stop settling and go for her dream

She finally gives in and moves forward with the audition after talking with an aging cabaret dancer, who said she started when she was 17 too, and now seems full of regret. That was some fierce footsie in the restaurant. did you see how long that application was? But seriously how else would she have gotten in with no previous training. especially in the third act slump when she finds out that he pulled a favor to get her the audition at the dance academy. They definitely give Alex every excuse they can to get mad and blow up at Nick. I got a kick out of Jeanie's moody Dad watching her at the ice show There is this meh side plot about a shady guy who is trying to recruit dancers from the bar to work at his strip club, but Alex does not approve of that at all But she plays hard to get since he is her boss The romance heats up when the owner of the steel mill Nick takes a liking to Alex. And her boyfriend Richie who is a not so great comedian who loves to crack polack jokes The other dreamers in the story who are far less interesting, and at times obnoxious are the side characters of Jeanie who tries and fails as a competitive figure skater. Wow, how about that water getting dumped on her in the chair! I suppose the neat silhouettes and lightning of the performances inspired the name Flashdance with those dance/workout fashions that defined the era

The tight shots on her are very seductive as she gets moving to the song 'Maniac'. Instead, she works by day as a welder at the steel mill, and by night enjoys dancing at a bar that has a stage for artsy risque cabaret dancing and comedians. Despite dreaming of being a great dancer, she is scared to put herself out there and apply to the local dance academy. Beals' character Alex certainly embodies the city with her tough, does not want help from anyone attitude.

And while the story started out a little generic, it was Jennifer Beals' magnetic smile, her rocking dance moves, and that catchy soundtrack that really makes this movie pop! Plus the camerawork is excellent and really makes the city and stage performances come alive. "Don't you understand? When you give up your dream, you die."įlashdance is all about dreamers in the working-class city of Pittsburgh who are trying to make it big. What a great song and this 80s classic uses it to the MAX, and gets you in the mood to get moving and work up a sweat!
